Boating & Paddling

Spring, summer and fall, Hodag Country offers great boating and paddling. Hundreds of area lakes provide an open-water playground for swimming, leisurely cruising and waterskiing. Boat launches are numerous and the water quality is second to none. Canoeists and kayakers will find great paddling opportunities on lakes, rivers and quiet backwaters.
Here are some of the area's best paddling opportunities:
The Willow Flowage ā Located west of Rhinelander in an undeveloped tract of forest, the Willow Flowage is a true wilderness destination. The complex of lakes, sloughs and islands covers 6,400 acres. Public access is available at the Willow Flowage Dam, Cedar Falls campground, The Sportsman's, Talbot's, Jerry's and McCord Road.
Wisconsin River ā Paddle the upper reaches of Wisconsin's longest River. The river is quite easy to paddle where it passes through the Rhinelander Area. Populare stretches include River Road to Bridge Road and Bridge Road to the Rhinelander Flowage.
Tomahawk River ā This winding river flows through deep forest and offers excellent paddling opportunities. Popular stretches include Camp Nine Road to Cedar Falls Road, Willow Flowage Dam to Highway K and Highway K to the Nokomis Boat landing.
